Le bouvier des Flandres : un sage hardi

Un peu d'histoire

Les circonstances de la naissance du bouvier des Flandres ont fait l'objet de controverses passionnées chez les amateurs de la race.

Le standard a été fixé pour la première fois en 1937. Le standard actuel (détenu conjointement par la France et la Belgique) date de 2001 et prend en compte le fait que la queue et les oreilles ne sont plus coupées (on coupe encore la queue en France).

Comme son nom l'indique cette race est originaire des Flandres qui s'étendent sur les territoires belges et français. ce sont des contrées au climat rude qui ont forgé des chiens résistants, aptes à la conduite des troupeaux de bovins. Les premiers bouviers ont été sélectionnés pour en faire des chiens de ferme sûrs et courageux.

Reconnus pour leur courage et leur robustesse, les bouviers des Flandres furent enrôlés dans les armées durant la première guerre mondiale. ils portaient les messages, servaient de liens entre les soldats des tranchées et retrouvaient les soldats blessés sur le champ de bataille.

heureusement resté à l'écart des modes, le bouvier est resté fidèle à ses origines, même si son caractère s'est adouci au fil du temps.
